Helen Hirsch was a Polish Jewish woman who was forced into hiding during the Holocaust. She was born in Poland in 1916 and worked as a maid for a German officer in the city of Krakow during World War II. In 1943, when the Nazis began liquidating the Krakow ghetto, Helen was able to secure a place in hiding in a small room in the officer's villa.
Helen's story was depicted in the 1993 film "Schindler's List," where she was portrayed by actress Emilia Fox. In the film, Helen is shown to have a close relationship with Oskar Schindler, the German businessman who saved the lives of over 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust. Helen remained in hiding until the end of the war and eventually immigrated to the United States, where she lived until her death in 2002.
Helen Hirsch's story serves as a reminder of the bravery and resilience of those who survived the horrors of the Holocaust, as well as the importance of remembering and honoring their experiences.
